There are many reasons why an addict requires treatment. First and the foremost reason is that every individual should not be robbed off his freedom to live. Though such a person has lost the ability to live a normal life, house, family, friends, confidence, esteem, dignity, a proper treatment can restore all or a part of it. There are many types of addictions such as gambling, shoplifting, internet, drug abuse, alcohol etc. that restrains people addicted to it from leading a natural and a healthy lifestyle.

Depending on the level of treatment required and the needs of the addict, treatment can be Individual – wherein the person is counseled on an individual basis, assessed by medical doctors, therapists and psychiatrists. Questions are asked and a treatment plan is prepared accordingly.

Group treatment – is advised wherein an addict maybe skeptical about treatments. In such instances, many addicts are grouped together and counseling is provided. These addicts get an opportunity to share thoughts, experiences and draw inspiration to improve from one another.

Residential treatment – in most cases the addict is sent to rehabilitation centers or health centers. Such people may want to live a life away from the hustle bustle and want time to ponder and think about what they really want to do. Most people are normally very serious about transforming their lives but there also few exceptions wherein few people have wandered into the wrong paths again.

There are detox programs for alcohol addicts wherein the addict is assessed by medical doctors. A treatment plan is created to manage the withdrawal symptoms of the person so it is essential to answer correctly to the therapist. Apart from detox programs, there are counseling sessions, therapy sessions, psychotherapy, art therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy etc. These treatment methods are suggested to the person based on the need and requirement. Sometimes, a single or combinations of methods.
